The basin is endowed with a wealth of natural resources land, forest resources, minerals, fish (particularly Nile Perch), wildlife, rivers and streams, wetlands and other biological resources, which provide unique opportunities for socio-economic development. Like in other places, the natural resources found in this basin offer avenue mostly to poor people to undertake economic activities for poverty reduction and sustainability of livelihoods (Chambers, 1992; Rennie and Sigh, 1996; Carney, 1998).
