Climate change

Research related to different aspects of climate change is currently undertaken by the EfD centers in Central America, Ethiopia, and South Africa. The centers cover a wide range of important research topics on climate change ranging from applied work on adaptation to research on different aspects of tradable emissions permits schemes and mitigation of greenhouse gases.

The studies on adaptation at both the Central American and the Ethiopian center focus on how farmers adapt to climate change. Such studies are crucial for the design of participatory campaigns to inform farmers about the need to adapt to climate change and for designing crop-specific insurance schemes in a risky environment. This research is closely connected to recent findings from behavioral economics. Such findings are also used in a theoretical study by the South African center where the researchers study the effect of the public attitude on the effectiveness of a tradable emission permits market.
