EPRU/EfD South Africa participated actively to South African Climate Change Summit

Kerri Brick, EfD research fellow, and Martine Visser, EfD research fellow and coordinator, presented papers on the economics of climate change mitigation at the 2009 South African Climate Change Summit, held in Johannesburg 3-6 March 2009.

The Environmental Policy Research Unit (EPRU) represented by Kerri Brick and Martine Visser, the Energy Research Centre (ERC) - both University of Cape Town, (UCT), and Genesis Analytics have examined various aspects of the economics of climate change mitigation. Five concept papers have been published by ERC and are available on the ERC website.

The series of papers set the context and consider four economic instruments, namely domestic GHG emissions trading, a carbon tax, tradable renewable energy certificates and white certificate trading. The papers were presented at events at the 2009 Climate Change Summit that was held in Johannesburg 3-6 March 2009.
